Byl to iniciační zážitek, který mu otevřel bránu do jiného světa. Když rodiče přinesli domů samizdatový překlad Tolkienova Pána prstenů a začali ho před spaním číst svým synům, asi sami nečekali, že to jejich Janovi změní život.
