S mottem 70 let v pohybu slavila Fakulta tělesné výchovy a sportu Univerzity Karlovy 23. září výročí svého založení. Součástí oslav ve Vokovicích byla výstava dobových snímků, ukázka aktivit vojenského oboru, představení esportu či kulatý stůl s absolventy, dorazilo téměř tisíc hostů. 

“Corporate research still has a hard time in the Czech Republic, there is a lack of targeted support,” says Martin Dienstbier, who graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics and co-founded the successful company DIANA Biotechnologies.

“Universities in some ways are run like big corporations. This has at times resulted in criticism from faculty that see the corporatisation of higher education as a recent issue,” says Klara Jelínková, VP and Chief Information Officer at Harvard.

„V tom všem, co dělám, jsem vlastně egoista – dělá mi dobře pomáhat lidem,“ říká Václav Šulista, absolvent PřF UK. V pětapadesáti opustil farmaceutický průmysl a naplno se stal kariérním koučem, poradcem, školitelem LinkedInu i honorárním konzulem ve Švýcarsku.

„Nejste dokonalý dobrovolník a chudák uprchlík – jste dva stejní lidé se stejnými potřebami a strachy,“ připomíná ředitelka Multikulturního centra Praha Zuzana Schreiberová. Ještě za studií pomáhala lidem na útěku před válkou v Sýrii a v Iráku, dnes předává zkušenosti při pomoci Ukrajincům.

Over the last few years, more and more young people in the Czech Republic have taken up longboarding, a hobby and sport related to skateboarding but different in many respects. Longboards, as the name suggests, utilise a longer deck but feel very different, offering a more stable ride on softer polyurethane wheels.

Cultural anthropologist Alena Lochmannová is a CU graduate and the author of Body behind Bars, a remarkable ethnological monograph examining tattoos and body modification in Czech prisons.

It’s always hard to be the youngest at something… or is it? Twenty-seven year old Filip Boháč, one of the youngest serving Protestant pastors in the country, would disagree. He says his age and approach has helped more than hurt in clearing the cobwebs and serving his congregation at a small village parish of Opatov in the Czech-Moravian Highlands.
